Material: 3D printing.

Design category: Product Design, Open Source.

Time: June 2018.

Overview:

The fact of decline of bird species is not easy to notice when we are living in the environment seeing them everywhere. Food, climate change, habitat, water and safety are the elements of their survival. The changes in cropping practice, specialization of farms and increase in the use so far, chemicals or changes in farm buildings can affect their production. Further research shows that the shape of the nest can also affect their reproduction.

So analyzing nests in order to choose right home for the species around the user is what I try to achieve in this project. The birdhouse is designed to be an open-source, so that anyone can easily engage to helping the specific bird species with their reproduction.

The focus:

The initial reason why I did this project was based on the first image in my mind about London. A huge difference between England and China, especially in nature, the diversity of animals, and also the accessibility of reaching animals. Finally, the most common animal, birds, attracted my attention. THE Birdhouse is a modular online shared nesting box which can be put into urban surrounding and has modular shape that can fit into many places. Most importantly, it spreads a correct knowledge, choosing a birdhouse with right dimensions can be helpful to their reproduction. So let’s build it birdhouse!
