Overview:
The project theme was about design lighting, and our group decided to design for joyfulness. The main material for lampshade is rice paper, an edible, translucent and almost tasteless material. Rice paper is mainly used for inner packaging of confectionery, cakes or medicines, to prevent the product from sticking to outer packaging, also to prevent from getting extra moisture.
This project was really interesting and playful. Most of the time was spent on testing the moisture percentage with the mixture pf PVA and water, to glue up each layer, and also consider the difficult level of demoulding.
The purpose was trying to use an unusual material with appropriate properties, light weighted and translucency for lighting design.

Making Process
Experiment
Adding water and PVC together to stick rice paper layer by layer. It is easy to be cracked during the drying process, so it is important to find out a proper moisture portion, as well as thickness of rice paper. The shapes are chosen to be like cone to be easily demoulded.
